Lake Buchanan, located about 60 miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country, is the largest of the Texas Highland Lakes. Spanning 22,000 acres, it is a premier destination for fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing, featuring rugged granite shores, secluded coves, and the famous wintering bald eagles.

Lake Buchanan is also one of the best lakes in central Texas and probably the best in Winter time. It fishes shallow as well and there's also a lot of big striper in the lake so any cast could have you hooked up on one of those. The white bass population and also hybrid bass that they've been stocking in the lake are all over and we get into those sometimes as well. If you are after quality bass, this is a great place to go and my favorite lake in the Central Texas area. In tournaments, it almost always takes over 20 pounds to win here. I've put clients on some of the biggest bass on this lake and even one that beat the lake record but they never turned it in. I have that one listed above. This lake is full of all the right cover and it sets up nicely to go get those big fish.
